In 2006, IGM opened its gem laboratory to the public.
Objectives:
- to give buyers and traders and mining operators the confidence they need in the gem market by using internationally valid gemstone certificate.
- to facilitate the trade of gemstones.
Services:
- Identification of gemstones through a comprehensive analysis by our qualified technicians (gemmologists FGA and GG) with possible detection of treatment (filling of the cracks, treatment by heating of corundum, etc.)
- provision of an identification report, internationally accepted
- provision of a technical data report
Equipment:
The laboratory has is equipped with standard gemmological instruments: polariscope, refractometer, microscope, spectroscope, dichroscope, UV light, micrometer, Chelsea filter, hydrostatic balance.
and a UV-Vis Spectrometer
Working hours:
- 8am to 4pm, from Monday to Friday
- no appointment is required
Technical assistance at the Madagasikara Gem Market:
The Madagasikara Gem Market (also called Market of stones or Tsenambato) takes place every first Friday and Saturday of the month at the Bibliothèque National Anosy and gathers several gemstones and jewellery salesmen.
IGM is present onsite offering a service of gemstone identification.
