The Institut de Gemmologie de Madagascar "IGM" is an organization under the authority of the Ministry in charge of Mines. It was created within the project "Projet de Gouvernance des Ressources Minérales" jointly financed by the World Bank and the Malagasy Government.

Launched in 2003, the IGM is the one of the few intitutes in Africa and in the Indian Ocean region to offer high quality training in gemmology, lapidary and jewellery fabrication. The IGM aims to promote the gemstone sector in Madagascar by means of training.

The IGM is a training centre working in close collaboration with world reknown gemmological institute such  as Gem-A of London and the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA).

It offers various training courses designed for beginners and professionnals. The ultimate goal is to improve the gemstone section through education and to achieve the international standard of quality.
